Gamma Epsilon Philadelphia City Chapter Programs

The Gamma Epsilon Philadelphia City chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated strives to improve and further our greater community. While recent events have caused us to be more creative in how we conduct our events, we are determined to hold our virtual programming to the same standards of community-centeredness and excellence that we have exhibited in years prior.

As society works to adjust themselves to the new normal brought about by COVID-19, we want to make sure that we think about how our community might be affected by recent events going on in the world. While the basis of our beloved Sorority rests on a commitment to service for all mankind, our founders were especially dedicated to enriching the condition of the African Diaspora. Gamma Epsilon provides programming with an emphasis on how best to care for ourselves and the things we hold dear, from healthy living habits, to disease awareness and prevention, and healthy relationships. Our chapter demonstrates what it means to be socially and civically minded through our community service, hosting events such as volunteering at local public service centers, mentoring young students, and collaborating with similarly-minded peer groups. Additionally, we want to further invest in our community’s progress through the use of technological innovation in efforts to advance academic and career goals. This theme will be interwoven into our programming this academic year.

While so much around us is changing, there are several things that will—luckily—stay the same. Gamma Epsilon holds an annual scholarship to support local high school students further their education. We rename the month of February "AKA Month" as a tribute to Black History Month and the contributions made by our Sorority to African-American culture. During this month, we host events ranging from an exhibition on the origins of stepping to a soul food dinner. In years past we have brought several renowned speakers to our campuses.
